Opeth is in the studio recording their new album. Before the band can unleash their latest album on Roadrunner the bands former label, Peaceville, has decided to go ahead and release a double disc live album. With only nine songs this live album will have you head banging for nineties minutes long.

Nine songs may not seem like a whole lot, but when you’re Opeth that is a big deal. The first disc features six while the second one only has three. If you are a fan of Opeth you will notice something strange, the bands 2002 release, Deliverance, has no tracks on here. This was very upsetting to me since my favorite release from Opeth was Deliverance.

Even with the lack of material from Deliverance, Ghost Reveries is missing too due to that fact that album is on Roadrunner, this double disc live album shines. The sound quality is very good; you get a good feel on how Opeth sounds on The Roundhouse Tapes.

Just to make sure you know this is a real live album Mikael Akerfeldt talks, whatever he was thinking about he says. I was relieved I didn’t have to live through another swear feast live album, Pantera’s live album got old real fast due to Phil Anselmo constantly swearing.

Final Verdict
The Roundhouse Tapes is a nice collection of songs from Opeth. All the tracks go well and you can tell the crowd is really getting into it. It was upsetting to see no tracks from Deliverance as this was Opeth’s album that started to give them a name, outside of the metal community. If you are a fan of Opeth make sure to pick this up.
