For the past three years I keep telling all my buddies that this year is the best for music. Once again I will be saying this statement again because Colors is top notch albums. Darkest Hour, The Absence and Iced Earth all have phenomenal albums but Between The Buried And Me has the better one...for now that is.

Colors helps redefine Between The Buried And Me. Foam Born: The Decade of Statues is a progressive masterpiece. Influences from progressive metal heavy weights Dream Theater can be heard in the guitar style but that isn't a bad thing since they spice things up with their own unique style. The transitions in all the tracks, in general, will blow your mind away.

The three treats on this album have to be the three longest tracks, Sun of Nothing, Ants of the Sky and White Walls. Sun of Nothing has a Sepultura meets Opeth vibe. For an added treat fans of Mr. Bungle might get aroused with the little piano ditty, I know I was ready to put on some Mr. Bungle. Ants of the Sky has more of a straight progressive feel to it. The best part to this track is the last three minutes, it reminds me of some Finnish Folk Metal.

Last but not least is White Walls. Brilliant, this track does a great job tying everything together. Blake Richardson's drumming on this track is tremendous. Probably the best part of Whites Walls has to be six minutes into the track. From this point we hear a soft beat that slowly builds into the climax of the song, a hard pounding attack that will have everyone on their feet. I said it before but I'll say it again White Walls is plain old brilliant, this track alone makes Colors a top album in 2007.

Final Verdict
Between The Buried And Me have reinvented themselves again with Colors. This progressive death metal masterpiece brings together the best elements from both these genres. Colors is one of those albums that everybody needs to listen to, fans of metal and alternative. True there are more death vocal styles on this album but the sheer shredding of the guitars and fantastic drumming make this album a gem. I highly recommend this album and I hope that this is the album that makes Between The Buried And Me a much bigger name.
