Resident Evil: Apocalypse [Blu-ray]
Released: September 10, 2004 / January 16, 2007
Director: Alexander Witt
Reviewer: Eric
How can I write a review on a movie like this? Resident Evil:
Apocalypse almost single handedly ruined the Resident Evil movie
franchise. The plot was beyond terrible and the acting was
laughable. Milla Jovovich was still looking just as good in this
movie, but she couldn’t even save this movie.
Apocalypse is comparable to House of the Dead, a video game
based movie that had video game footage during battle scenes.
The zombies in this movie were as strong as door knobs.
Everything that was great about the first movie was saved for
the third movie, but that still doesn’t explain this movie to
Resident Evil fans.
After being enhanced by the Umbrella Corporation Alice aids a
group of survivors, stuck in Raccoon City. Thousands of people
are trying to break out of the city as officials keep them
locked in, frighten the virus may spread. To make things worse a
biochemical weapon known as the Nemesis is unleashed to destroy
anything in its sight.
I really couldn’t stand this movie. More aspects from the video
game were added into Resident Evil: Apocalypse but who really
cares. When you have a scene where zombies are dying with matrix
style kung fu you know there are problems. Nothing about this
movie is good.
Nemesis looks pretty cool in this movie, which is one of the
best parts of the film. Things get sour whenever both Nemesis
and Alice can jump higher than small office buildings. Whenever
these two fight off and on you just want to laugh out loud. Most
of the scenes in this movie resemble anything Uwe Boll has
created. Remember Alone in the Dark?
My version of Resident Evil: Apocalypse is apparently not as
good as the newer version released in early January, but who
cares. The transfer from DVD to Blu-ray looks good, the colors
are a lot brighter and everything in general seems more
realistic.
This movie contains a few special features that make up for the
movies terrible plot. All of the commentary tracks though are
not anything to brag about. During all of the tracks everybody
talks so highly of the movie. Who are they trying to kid? Parts
of the movie that stand out as being embarrassing the director
and many others praise it to high heaven. Maybe all three of
these tracks are comedy commentaries?
Special featurettes on a film that stinks is pointless. All of
the behind the scenes features are boring and a waste of time.
Even the twenty deleted scenes are disappointing. There is a
pretty amusing deleted scene with some naked zombies. If this
was added into the movie maybe more people would have liked it.
Final Verdict
I hate this movie for all it’s worth. When I saw this movie in
theaters I thought I was missing something so I bought it on
DVD. The DVD really didn’t help too much either but I got a
third chance with the movie whenever I got this movie in the
mail for free. Turns out Resident Evil: Apocalypse is really
that terrible, three strikes and it is out of here, hopefully
for good.
