Sherlock Holmes is everything you expected it would be. A well balanced movie
with action and humor. When the movie first started I knew that this wasn’t
going to be any ordinary movie from Guy Ritchie, a man who is use to making
movies with more swear words than a 50 Cent record. It can be done! Ritchie and
his vision of Sherlock Holmes proves this.
The best part about Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes is Ritchie didn’t ruin it. I
am used to Guy Ritchie making movies where the lead characters spit out foul
words in every sentence. Thank God for the common sense in Ritchie, he made sure
to director this picture with all attention to make it a good blockbuster.
In the film Robert Downey Jr. plays Sherlock Holmes, a detective who has a
unique way on solving mysteries. Real close to Holmes is his sidekick Dr.
Watson, played by Jude Law. At the start of the movie we get to see the two
finish up a case on Lord Blackwell (Mark Strong). When things are finally done
Sherlock Holmes is left with nothing else to do that is until a string of
mysteries start to erupt again over an imprisoned Blackwell.
Throughout the movie Holmes and Watson have their differences. It may either be
from the new mystery revolving around Lord Blackwell or with the women in both
of their lives. Holmes is not too happy with Dr. Watson moving on while Watson
is not too sure about Irene Adler’s (Rachel McAdams) sudden appearance in
Sherlock Holmes life again.
I really enjoyed how the script was written in a true sense to old Sherlock
Holmes novels. Everyone should know by now that Holmes has a little problem with
drugs and it is shown in the movie, only to a point though, nothing hardcore.
But the overall feel of the movie really does take you inside some of the best
Sherlock Holmes pieces. I know after viewing this movie I was ready to fire up
my card and buy some books.
Along with all of the action and humor this movie has the acting is really good.
I have got to give a ton of credit to our leading actors, Robert Downey Jr. and
Jude Law. These guys work so well together. I could not picture anyone else as
Holmes or Watson. If it wasn’t for these two the movie would not be as good but
the other actors still give great performances, even though the Lord Blackwell
characters seems like he could have came from Hogwarts.
Final Verdict
When the movie was first announced I had some minor issues go through my head.
After getting a chance to see the movie I can safely say that there wasn’t
anything wrong with this movie. Sherlock Holmes has all the makings of a good
action comedy movie. The acting is well done in the movie and Guy Ritchie just
blew me away with his work on this film. If you haven’t seen this one yet you
better make the time to do so.
