Mr. Brooks

Kevin Costner plays a serial killer in Mr. Brooks. This is the man that was in such movies as Tin Cup, Waterworld, The Postman and Dances With Wolves. I’m pretty sure this is a new role for Costner and goddamn he does a great job!
Mr.
Brooks is the story about a man with an alter ego that makes him
kill. Detective Tracy Atwood, played by Striptease star Demi
Moore, whose devotion to her job catches the
attention and
respect of the serial killer she is trying to hunt down. Funny
man Dane Cook also plays a big role in this movie early on,
befriending serial killer Mr. Brooks.
I really hope this movie does become a trilogy like attend.
Director Bruce A. Evans has stated in interview that Mr. Brooks
was written to be a trilogy, even Kevin Costner has said about
this too. Does this
ruin the entire movie? I’m not saying
anything. I do hate how Hollywood automatically makes certain
movies into trilogies right away. In Mr. Brooks’s case I think
this would end up being a wonderful trilogy.
Costner hasn’t been this good in a movie for a long time I
think. Mr. Brooks seems like the perfect family man, in the
beginning of the film he wins a Man of the Year award, plus he
has a successful company. What would cause a man like this to
become a serial killer? Watch and see, the way this movie
progressive is great. It does remind me of a modern day Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, minus the whole turning into a
monster
thing.
Dane Cook does a pretty good job in this movie I think, he
surprised me. I am use to be
cracking jokes and the time, in
here he does crack a few jokes here and there but nothing like
we know him as. He isn’t as talented as an Adam Sandler or Robin
Williams as an all around actor but he is much better than Jim
Cary, that guy is only good at one kind of music. As for Demi
Moore I’m not sure, I’ve never really been a fan of her really
to tell the truth. There is something about her voice, it’s too
raspy. She really doesn’t seem like somebody that would be a
detective, poor choice I think.
The
Mr. Brooks DVD is
packed with deleted scenes with optional
commentary, three commentary tracks, behind the scenes featurettes and music videos. These deleted scenes are a nice
addition, but they didn’t really need to be in the movie too
much. The commentary tracks are good, one is with star and
producer Kevin Costner, another has the other producer Jim
Wilson and the last one is with
screenwriter Bruce Evans. Great
bonus features for a good movie, make sure to listen to Bruce
Evans commentary, it’s the best out of the three..
Final Verdict
Most people missed out on this movie when it had its
short stint in theaters, but
thankfully it made a small profit.
Will we end up seeing the Mr. Brooks movies done into a trilogy?
From the sounds of it I think so and I couldn’t be happier. Mr.
Brooks is a great psychological thriller; Kevin Costner really
does shine in this movie. I will admit there are some slow parts
in this movie, but it doesn’t
hurt the movie too much. Check
this movie out; it is well worth a rental and maybe in a
purchase if you have some extra money.
