What do you get when you add dancing and karaoke? Simple you get
Boogie, a game that combines dancing and singing. If you enjoy
singing Britney Spears songs and moving your arms like a bird
then Boogie should be in your Wii collection, along with all
those other mini games that cost too much. If you want to hear
why I won't be adding this into my collection any time soon then
continue to read, you will thank me since this game will set
you back $59.99.
When you first put on this game, after you hook up the microphone
(connects to the back of your Wii), you get to pick which Boogie
character you'd like to use. Funny, the game says you get to make
your own character, picking one of these pre-made characters
doesn't seem like I'm making my own character. Oh wait I get to
put on different outfits on my character, super sweet. Now it
really does feel like I made my own character. Do you sense the
sarcasm in my words?
After you are done with this you go through a tutorial. Learn
how to dance, make videos/edit your routine, and how to sing. All
of this is made out to be fun and easy, but it isn't. It took me
at most five minutes to get through this tutorial, I felt I knew
everything about this game. It also seemed fun, Boogie was almost
ready to be purchased. When I first went to play the story mode
it all came crashing down like a ton of bricks.
Let's first start off with dancing. To me, dancing is moving
around and having a good time. In Boogie, although you can move
around, your arms have to flail around like a freaking jackass just to
beat one stage in this game. There is no point to move your
feet in this game, hence why it really isn't dancing too much.
Dancing is when you move your feet, I'm moving my arms. My character
though is moving/dancing. Move the Wii Mote up, down, left, or right,
it doesn't matter. All you have to know is if you keep doing the same
dance move too much in a row you'll gain no points at all.
There is another thing you need to know about dancing. In the stages/chapters
there will be little guys that throw out coins, multipliers, and so
forth. You need to use the D Pad and grab these items, but when
you do that stops your multiplier you are already earning from your current
dance moves. Does this game not want you to win? Yes it does and here is
how you win. If you try to play the game like you're suppose to you'll
get pissed, I had my Wii Mote hit the wall three times when I played
this game like a normal person. If you want to earn all those outfits then
turn the volume off of your television and listen to your Wii Mote. These
little noises that come from the Wii Mote (make sure the Wii Mote's volume
is turned up) let you know when you dance to keep the beat. If you move
when your hear this sound you'll gain a ton of points. This pretty
much ruins the entire game, but it's going to get better with the
karaoke.
This is the worst karaoke simulator ever! In the tutorial singing was
pretty cool, I did so well. When I played my first singing song, one of the
Britney Spear's songs, I did horrible. I know I'm not the best singer, but I
was doing real bad. This thing is so damn sensitive, it's not even funny. In
order to get any where in the story mode I had to cheat again, which isn't cheating
really since I didn't put in a code. All you need to do is take one of your fingers
and tap the microphone. Its that easy folks, just tap away. At first you
won't do too well, but after the first try you'll get the hang of it.
When I figured out the tapping in this game I was earning all the best scores
in these songs, something in which should take time.
Final Verdict
Boogie is a huge let down. When I found out this game had a karaoke mode in it
too I thought that was awesome, so I gave it a try. Singing in this game is
horrible, even the best of singers will have a hard time at this game. Oh and
dancing this will definetly make you look like a retard. People that don't have
a Wii tend to joke how you have to wave your arms like a jackass for every game. They
would be right for this game, but if you turn the volume done and listen to your
Wii Mote you will be a pro. If you play this game you'll be doing this tricks if
you want to earn all the outfits and extra songs. Playing this game like you
normal person will only anger you, I'm still surprise my one Wii Mote is still
functioning.
