Leave it to Sega on bringing these two games on the Nintendo Wii. Both games are old now and it defiantly shows on The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Sure you get two games for only $30, but is that worth it? Can these classic games bringing new life to the Wii?

There is nothing much to say about these two games. Both games were released already from the Dreamcast to the original Xbox. The only major different here is you only have to pay one low price for two games and there is a decent gun (see Link’s Crossbow Training review) out for the Wii. Still for $30 you would expect a little more than what Sega is offering.

Both of these games are direct ports from the originals. If you own either of these games already then you might want to pass this title up. Sega didn’t do anything to change the experience of these games. Just point and click. The game is a lot funnier than my description, but this is uncalled for when a company like Sega is releasing nothing special. Would it have killed them to update the graphics a little?

One of the things Sega did get right was using the Wii’s gun to its fullest potential. When you calibrate your gun every shot seems to be dead on. If you are having problems during the game you can just pause it and calibrate your gun again. In reality you are just using the Wii Mote so I guess we have to give Sega credit for using Nintendo’s controller the best. Maybe Sega and Nintendo should sit down and have some coffee sometime, maybe they can help Nintendo fix the problems the Wii Mote has every so often.

If you don’t have the gun for the Wii yet then don’t worry, you can still pick up this game. All the gun does is create a solid item you can hold. I found the game to be more enjoyable with two Wii Motes in my hands. When I was playing the game like this I sort of felt like Rambo (see Rambo review) for a little bit. Once I lost all of my continues, which happened pretty fast, I was singing another song.

House of the Dead 3 does have an extreme mode for hardcore gamers. This really isn’t going to break the wall down because the games already have original and arcade mode. Playing House of the Dead 3 in a harder mode won’t change the fact that this game was thrown out there for a few quick bucks. Read in-between the lines, Sega is only doing this to collect some money since they lost so much with the last Sonic game.

The package would have been a lot better if Sega put the original House of the Dead on here. With all of the three games on here Sega could then bring out the fourth game in the series during Halloween. I’ve played House of the Dead 4 at the arcades and I wish it was on a console already. The graphics might not be as good if the fourth game was on the Wii, but that is fine with me since the controls are that good.

Final Verdict
For only $30 this sounds like a steal. I would rather play the original games to tell the truth, but that isn’t possible any more since I no longer have House of the Dead 3. If you own the Wii gun like me then picking this up might not be such a bad idea. However if you were expecting a lot of new content here you will be disappointed. Nice try Sega, next time add in a little more and we’ll call for that first date.
