Dynasty Warriors 6 is finally here. How we’ve all long for another button
mashing hack and slash from the team that’s brought us the past five Dynasty
Warrior games. Everything you enjoyed or hated in the past few games are still
here, but this time around a few new things have been added to spice up this
basic genre of game play. Is it worth sixty dollars or should you kill the
warriors before they enter your console?
Even though hack and slash games (see
Conan Xbox 360
review) are boring after an hour of game play they are
fun. For those sixty minutes you can slam on any amount of buttons and pull off
the biggest combos in gaming history. It is an easy formula to follow, but for
some reason Dynasty Warriors 6 is lacking something we have seen in the past
dozen hack and slash games.
One thing the game isn’t lacking is story. If you never paid any attention in
history class then you may be lost with the story. This should go for about
everyone that lives in the United States since the story in Dynasty Warriors 6
is full of foreign names and locations. The games story might not be important
to some, but it would have been nice if the game had a story everybody can
follow.
Fighting in the game is simple. Run around and kill all the enemies in the
level, smashing as many buttons as you can. When you can use your special attack
you can kill more enemies with a single blow. Repeat this process as much as you
want. If you are having trouble in the story mode you can always play stages
over and gain more experience.
If this isn’t enough for you Dynasty Warriors 6 lets you climb and swim now.
We’ve been able to do both of these things in games before so what is the big
deal? The big deal is you can now climb up ladders to kill even more enemies.
Same thing with swimming, go under water and come back up to kill more enemies.
Adding this into the game does not revolutionize the game at all; all this is
doing is making Dynasty Warriors 6 seem more realistic.
Once again there is no multiplayer in a Dynasty Warriors game. If you have a
friend then you can play co-op mode. This can be fun if your friend is willing
to play the game for an hour or so. Trying to beat some of these stages require
you to level up so don’t expect to fly through this game.
The Xbox 360 version of the game seems to perform better than the Playstation 3
version. For starters Playstation owners can install the game on their hard
drive, to give them a semi better feel than refusing to install the game. Co-op
mode seems to run a lot smoother on the Xbox 360 also.
Final Verdict
If you love the Dynasty Warriors series then you probably already own this game.
This is the same game we have seen since day one. Graphically this game is not
what it should be, even on both systems. Dynasty Warriors is still lacking
online game play, which is a big kick to the ass to fans considering other hack
and slash games have made the leap to online game play.
