I really wasn't expecting too much when I bought this game. It's the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, in a video game. Either you get it or you don't. This game, well, it's safe to say that only big fans of the show should get this one.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am (PS2) Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am is essentially three games in one. A golf game, a hack-n-slash fighter, and a combat driving game. Only the minds behind this show would decide to put all three of these types of games together. Do we get Tiger Woods, God of War, and Twisted Metal all wraped up into one game? Hell no! What you get is much like the show itself; funny, but obviously low-budget.

The storyline of the game basically revolves around Frylock getting a membership to an exclusive New Jersey public golfcourse. The nice thing about this is that it's basically an episode of the show. Much like the Futurama game that came out for the PS2 and XBox a few years ago, this one will probably be played just to unlock the cutscenes between each hole. I found the golfing parts to be a bit annoying, simply because the controls were a bit laggy.

The neat aspect about this game is that you have to literally fight your way to the ball after you hit it. This is where the hack-n-slash comes into play. You'll use whatever weapons you have available to fight off hordes of characters from the show. You'll also occasionally race the frat aliens around in golfcarts to get to your ball. Once you get to your ball, you go back into golf mode, but be careful when you get to the green. Each time before you can put, you must face a boss for that stage.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am (PS2) The graphics for this game are a moderately decent attempt at making the ATHF characters 3D with a little bit of cell-shaded effect. There were a few lip-sync issues, but nothing to make it unbearable. The sound is where this game both is good and bad. The bad part about the sound is that the voices become muddled during the actual gameplay, but at least improve during cutscenes. The fantastic thing about this game is that they got all of the voices of the real characters in the game, which really makes it like you're watching an episode of the show.

There is one final aspect that now makes me happy I bought it. When I did pick up my copy of Futurama the video game, I had no idea that my brand-new $30 game would eventually sell for over $60 used. With some of the extras they added, combined with both the original voices and the fact that this is basically an interactive episode, I could see this one being worth more than the $30 price tag it has on it.

Final Verdict

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am is not a good game. If you are not a fan of the show, spend your money elsewhere. If you love ATHF and own a PS2, buy this game because you will not regret it. One of the extras makes it almost worth it. Not to mention the loading screens are pretty neat. The fanboy in me is yelling at me to give this one a good rating, but as a game, it really only deserves a 3.5 out of 10. If I didn't actually have to play it and only enjoyed the extras and cutscenes, I'm sure that rating would have jumped significantly.
