It is about time Conan gets a video game like this. The
blood, sex and
violence in this game make most Rockstar games
look childish. You won’t be jacking cars or searching for sex
mini games here, Conan is a full blown God of War clone. Does
this barbarian copy off so much from the God of War series that
his game fails below the passing mark?
Call
it a God of War rip off all you want, Conan is a great game for
the
Xbox 360. I first got the chance to play this game on the
Playstation 3, the demo was available when my Xbox 360 was out
of action. This game is what Conan fans have been waiting for, a
good control scheme, a story that lives up to the barbarians
name and naked women. What more do you want?
The story is simple. Conan is off
finding treasure and in the
process he woke up some ancient wizard. Conan’s mind was erased
and his armor was taken away from him, scattered across the
barbarian’s home land. The wizard put a spell on Conan’s armor
too, making horrifying creatures control what is his. You need
to fight off zombie elephants, giant sea monsters and dragons
just to get back your armor. Of course when it is all said and
done you need to find and kill that wizard too.
Conan’s graphics are detailed in all the places that count. Out
of all the games that have the balls to show
full frontal nudity
Conan offers the best peep show. It seems a little strange that
half naked women and tied up in the middle of no where, but
Conan doesn’t mind. When you save these women you are treated to
the best sexual innuendos ever. Now really does that red head
really want to see Conan’s big sword?
Other than the nudity that is flashed around in this game the
blood is just as bad. You can go around chopping off limbs with
shields, swords, spears and anything else Conan can get his
hands on. Whenever you kill somebody you will see blood come out
every where and it stays on the ground. Have fun killing hordes
of
enemies just make sure the little ones are sleeping; this is
a game that should have gotten in trouble, not Manhunt 2.
Even with the great blood and nudity graphics we are treated to
so nice layouts too. I did run into some clipping in this game,
some of your enemies may get stuck in a wall and the only thing
they can do is walk in that same spot. Character
designs are
lacking in here and it is a shame, the developers only seem to
put time into the games main characters. Some times it just
feels like you are fighting the same guy over and over again,
the only difference is the weapon he is holding.
The
combat system is just like God of War. Even though this is a
clone there are enough abilities you can learn in this game that
make this stand out. You can learn attacks with heavy weapons,
dual wielding and grapples. It is hard to learn everything in
this the first time around; there are multiple paths in stages,
where if you pick the
wrong path you may be missing out on some
red orbs. Even though this may turn some people off it should
give some replay value. Not only that every skill you learn can
be leveled up. When skills are mastered you get bonuses when you
use them in battle, giving you different colors orbs that will
help you on your quest.
Conan has something that some hack and slash games don’t, three
difficulties from the start of the game. If you were one of the
people that got pissed off while playing God of War then you
should be happy with this. You do gain achievements if you play
on harder difficulties, but most people just want to go through
the game and enjoy it for what it’s worth. Conan can take up to
ten or more hours to complete, it depend son how much time you
put into searching stages and the
difficulty you are playing.
Most of the stages are straight forward, but there are times you
can find a hidden path that leads to treasure chests, power ups
or more of those half naked women. If the developers added in
more free roaming into Conan it would have been a lot better,
but beggars can't be choosers.
The score in Conan is top notch and there is no questioning that
since the person who did the music for God of War also did
Conan’s. Epic medieval music is heard throughout this game, boss
battles may make you sit your controller down just so you can
hear the games music. The voice acting is good as well; Conan
likes to say inappropriate comments towards women. There are
times when the words don’t match the
characters mouth movement,
but it is easily fixed within a few seconds.
Final Verdict
If you liked God of War then Conan is worth checking out.
This game has an easy learning curve and a story that should
please fans of the Conan series. Conan is a clone to God of War
and it can be seen throughout the entire game, but that is
alright since Conan is fun to play, they took all the great
aspects of that game and turned it into their own. You should
get a few good hours with this game, if you a achievement whore
then you will defiantly have a good while with Conan. If you are
looking for a
hack and slash game with lots of violence then buy
Conan. Now if you are a horny teenager that loves virtual nudity
then find enough money to buy Conan right away, you will thank
me when you are playing this late at night.
