I’m not kidding; I closed my eyes and picked a Wii game. When my eyes opened there it was, Escape From Bug Island. I’ve been dredging this game ever since I saw it. The cover is horrible, the description of the game is terrible and the M rating makes me laugh. Is the Wii ready for an M rated game about bugs? I think so, this game is out and I know everyone is dying to get their hands on it.

Escape From Bug IslandOh it is because this game is real. You are your buddies go on an island that has big bugs. These bugs are so huge they’ll wait for you to hit them with such weapons as sticks and stones. No I am not trying to reference the one New Found Glory album, you get to throw stones and use a huge stick to attack these bugs. If that isn’t good enough you can shake off the small bugs.

Ray, the main character, moves like an 80 year old man. Not only do I have to deal with one of the slowest characters in video game history I have to deal with these controls. Hold B to attack while pressing other buttons to make your character attack the bugs like a champion. The best part is trying to dodge these bugs, you are suppose to move the Wii Mote left to jump light and right to jump right. Half the time Ray wants to jump to the right only, he’ll only go to the left when you least expect it.

The M rating here makes me laugh. I only see green blood from these bugs, nothing more. When the bugs attack Ray I don’t see anything, all I hear is a horrible sound coming from my Wii Mote. Maybe this game got an M rating because of the fog. That’s it, there is so much fog here somebody might trip and break a bone. Oh wait you can’t do that. What you can do is eat cans of vegetables. I think that is it, eating vegetables. That would scare the living M out of me. Thanks for warning me guys, I’ll just leave that can of carrots for the giant bug that is chasing me.

One thing that does stand out for this game, if you can say that, is the ending. There are two endings that I know of and it isn't hard at all to get either of them. Both of the endings are lame but it really was nice that the developers put in that extra effort. Is this good enough to play the game over again? No because once you see the one ending you won't want to play though this again. Out of all the survival horror games out there Escape From Bug Island is pretty weak.

Final Verdict
I might have hated a lot of things about this game, but it is a lot better than most games. Escape From Bug Island has a lame story, which is told by bad actors. The graphics remind me of some N64 game that’s on steroids. You see a lot of the same thing here and there isn’t any replay value here. Use the Wii Mote and smack some bugs with sticks, after that enjoy more of the horrible music that fills this game.
