Square Enix could have went the easy route and created another Tobal game. Instead of doing that Square Enix went ahead and made a game for Final Fantasy fans. Not only did they do that they created a new kind of fighting game. Dissidia is an experience on the PSP that you have never played yet and that is the way it should be on Sony’s portable.

Final Fantasy is of course a fantasy game. Dissidia takes the fantasy concept and goes into a new direction. Yeah sure Dissidia sort of feels as bizarre and strange as Dragon Ball. I really don’t understand why all these characters from the Final Fantasy Universe can jump high and fly (pretty much flying really (gliding?)). It feels weird. I mean these characters I love use to stand still, use magic and attack. At times they would do the occasional summon spell. All of that is in here but why all of the goddamn flying/gliding?

What makes Dissidia so unique is how you earn yourself a victory. You have to raise your bravery points to use stronger attacks to take away your opponents health. Bravery points pretty much represent your all doing in this game. Dissidia feels like your characters are just tugging on a rope that can only be broken when one character makes a false move.

Square Enix did not dumb down this fighter at all. All of the Final Fantasy aspects are here (like I said before) and that means EVERYTHING! The PSP only has so many buttons. Some of the moves require you to hold others down at the same time or move back and fourth, and then hit a button. In a fighter like this doing certain moves might not always work. Not only that when you have to hold buttons down that either have you rushing or defending it gets interesting. I am glad Square Enix went above and beyond here, I really am. Maybe it might have been a better idea if this one went on the Playstation 3 instead.

As complex as the controls might get at times the basics are easy to pull off. You can enjoy the game by using the simple buttons because it feels like Smash Bros then, a good Smash Bros. Just get prepared to maybe step up your game on whom you might play since it won’t take much time for some to get good.

Dissidia brings in plenty of role playing aspects as well. Story Mode lets you fight through different enemies and learn more on the games story. You can upgrade your equipment as you play and while you keep leveling up you get new abilities. There are so many RPG aspects in here that advent role playing fans might find a fighting game they enjoy.

Speaking of the games story I found that Dissidia has one of the best. There are two sides, good and evil. Cosmos picked her ten warriors and Chaos picked his ten. Depending on how you play the game is how the outcome is. The basic story is still the same with the crystals but what happens in-between is what makes this game so damn good. All of the heroes and villains from the Final Fantasy games still have their personalities. Let the good times role since we all know some of these characters are quite special.

Another real cool feature in Dissidia is how Square Enix added so much in all those small details. The help screens are filled with all these different Final Fantasy characters. While you are playing the game you will actually earn more items and so fourth. Shops will get new weapons and the games in-game calendar will let you know if any bonuses are going on today. Dissidia really has so many extras it is great! There is a real reason to play this game every day.

Final Verdict
There is just so much in this game it is great. For a PSP game I think Square Enix has set high standards on how all future PSP games should be. Dissidia offers so much in gameplay and extra content that you might feel like the price is too good to be true. The controls might not be the best but you can at least play this game with a few simple buttons. Overall this is a must own game for PSP and Final Fantasy fans.
