There was a time when Leisure Suit Larry was a franchise that was worth
while. At first the series was on the PC only and only adults could play it. If
you were able to figure out your parent’s password and answer a few semi-hard
questions you could play the original Leisure Suit Larry. Fun times and those
fun times kept going on for quite some time.
When Leisure Suit Larry came out on consoles with Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum
Laude, it seemed like the series is back for the long run. This was also the
first game without the series creator Al Lowe. Lowe also was not apart of Box
Office Bust so we can still thank him for all of the other great Leisure Suit
Larry games.
Box Office Bust puts your in control of Larry Lovage again, the star of Magna
Cum Laude and the nephew of Larry Laffer, the original Leisure Suit Larry.
Instead of having the urge to have sex with every woman in the world Lovage is
out to save his Uncle Larry’s film studio. Lovage is going to find the secrets
and find out what it going on in the film industry.
The story and the game in general is filled with sexual jokes. Unlike all the
other games there is no nudity in Box Office Bust. This series is known for
having nudity. Something about that made the game enjoyable to play and a game
that got better each game through, mainly since you wanted to see some T&A. Box
Office Bust takes that out and adds in non-stop jokes from the biggest B and C
rated celebrates. Bad idea.
Just like the last Leisure Suit Larry game this one is a platformer with mini
games. The platforming aspect of the game is full of bugs, bad camera views and
loading times that will make the cheap price on the box seem like its too much.
All you do in this game is drive from one point of the studio to another, just
to complete a task that is either way too easy or too hard, mainly do to the
games camera. It is funny how the developers knew about these problems because
we constantly hear Lovage talking about the boring driving around the studio.
All of the mini games are what you would expect. These games are poorly done
with sexual themes, either with the game rules or splashes of white stuff on the
ground. None of these mini games are fun and the outcome will only let you go
forward in the game. Why would anyone want to proceed in this game?
Frame rates are beyond fixing. It would have been best if this game was put on
the shelf because you can’t fix this. Clipping is also a big problem as well.
The only time this game works is during cut-scenes but these sequences are not
next gen at all. Trying to use positive words with this game is just hard.
Final Verdict
No matter what this game will still be available for purchase. For the asking
price you might (I stress this) find something good. Most gamers will find
nothing good about this one; even trying to earn achievements is boring. The
Leisure Suit Larry series either needs to die already or a whole new team needs
to come aboard.
