How many people in there right mind would want to build a bear inside of a
Wii? It does not sound like anything great, trust me. But the secret to this
game is what you have to do after you build your bear. A Friend Fur All Seasons
will please children but that is about it. These bears can not make everyone
happy.
Children’s games are sweeping the Wii. At least once a week there are at least
two or three new games that are only for children. The first Build-A-Bear game
on the Wii is only for kids. There is nothing in this game that will please
older gamers. Sometimes there are those games that are so bad and for kids that
you want to play, but this one, just stay away from it.
You start off the game making your own creature from the Build-A-Bear Workshop.
From the title I thought you could only build bears but it turns out the
Build-A-Bear company now makes all sorts of animals. Shouldn’t there be a change
in the name because this just sounds silly?
Any who after you pick your animal you are put through different tasks to earn
puzzle pieces. Each island has 4 puzzle pieces and there are a total of 4
islands. On each island you can earn new outfits for your character. The game
leaves you to believe that you unlock these outfits. What you really do is
unlock them to purchase them in the Build-A-Bear Workshop. If you ever forget
what game you are playing or what building you are entering the game first shows
you the company’s logo. Product placement is awesome especially if the companies
name is every where.
All of the mini games (yes more mini games) you play have you using the Wii Mote
in all sorts of directions. I found it rather interesting that some games
descriptions can be taken the wrong way when you see which motion you have to
frail your arms. Sexual innuendos are awesome in children’s games.
Some of the games have controls problems, either to your benefit or
disadvantage. Any game that forces you to move the Mii Mote with certain
strength seems to be fixed. Either the developers made three animations or the
game is too picky. If the game is really that picking then I can see a lot of
kids throwing fits. So parents here is a message, make sure your children have
their Wii Mote straps on tight.
There are supposedly a lot of games to play but they are all the same, just
different graphics. If the story mode is beaten too fast (it took me 2 hours to
unlock everything) you can always play your favorite games in the quick play
section.
Build-A-Bear does have more problems other than the easy/hard curve. Changing
the games sound seems to completely shut off the games sound. I tried changing
the volume back to where it was but it didn’t seem to do anything. When I
restarted the game everything was fixed.
Final Verdict
A Wii game that has no gameplay and numerous glitches? That seems to be a common
thing any more. Even as a kid’s game I don’t think this is any good. Only 2
hours of gameplay and the same mini games over and over again? Build-A-Bear is a
train wreck and a disgrace. Buy something else for your young ones.
