Midway released the Dreamcast in 1999. One of the launching titles was Ready
2 Rumble, a boxing game that became a huge hit. Midway couldn’t seem to relive
the same magic when it came to the second game in the series which is why they
stopped. Out of the blue though Ready 2 Rumble is back and we have Atari to
thank.
This third person boxing game is an exclusive to the Wii (for now at least). All
of the characters are still made up but they are made to resemble stereotypes
and real-life individuals. Ready 2 Rumble Revolution is trying to bring back the
series and with the character selection it fails miserably. I would have rather
of seen all of the old characters come back. Come on was it really necessary to
have every character be a typical stereotype? This is just sad!
Revolution has a lot of different moves to offer, more than the series has ever
seen. If there are so many moves why is it so hard to pull them off? Trying to
do simple moves will cause you to do something completely different. It may take
you almost ten tries to do the one move you have been trying to do from the
beginning.
If you don’t have a good grip on your Wii Mote then your character will have a
brain of its own. Characters in this game seem to do their own thing if you slip
or jerk the controller in another way. Did the developers program the game to
act stupid if the gamer drops the Wii Mote by mistake? The funny part about this
though I actual one a watch this way before and trust me it is hard to win
matches sometimes in Revolution.
Ready 2 Rumble Revolution is the perfect game to play if you want to frail your
arms like an idiot. There is no real strategy you can put into matches. Moving
around the ring is a chore. This is the perfect game that proves that the
company didn’t hire testers before it was released. Nothing seems to go through
to the Wii Mote and nunchuck. You stand around too often like an idiot; it feels
like you are playing as a punching bag while the computer beats you up to
practice.
Training mode is included, but it really doesn’t help too much. This mode tries
to let you think that everything is easy and it isn’t. Wait a second you can win
championships in the game…wait that isn’t really possible since the game is
completely unfair.
Both the graphics and sound are another huge disappointment to anyone who buys
this or wants to play it. You know how everyone always says most Wii games look
like enhanced N64 or GameCube games? They would be right here. Revolution looks
like it could have been on the N64, saying GameCube is just pushing it. Oh yeah
I didn’t forget the sound sucks too, that is where the real GameCube comment
comes into play.
Final Verdict
I see no reason to buy this game or even mention it. Late last year we heard
about Ready 2 Rumble Revolution being developed and now it is released. They
really put no goddamn time into this game. I could name a hundred things I would
rather do than play this game so do yourself a favor and throw this game to the
ground if you see it.
