With all of these karaoke games being released, it seems a bit stale that
they would keep putting out the same thing over and over again. This is the
latest one to come from Sony, and hopefully the last. Don’t get me wrong, this
is a good game, but they keep pumping these out and they are cool and all. Well,
you get the point. This is my review.
This game makes it hard to find any problems at all with the actual gameplay. My
only complaints are directed to the DLC. They put up about 10-20 songs every
other week, but It seems like after the first big group was released, they just
kind of half ass it every single time. I get all pumped up on Fridays to go grab
some new songs, but then I get let down when they pick a fantastic song, and put
the crappiest version of it up for download.
For example, they put the song “True colors” up by some crappy artist when
they could have easily gotten a good version by Cyndi Lauper or Phil Collins. It
literally made me not want to sing it. Sort of reminded me of a tied down goat
getting killed by a pit bull puppy, but then again that would be kind of cute
compared to that version of the song. Would it kill Sony to cut us a break and
make the songs between 50 cents and a dollar instead of a buck fifty a piece, I
know it ends up equaling the price of a game if you download the same amount,
but damn. The DLC is straight profit, no packaging or shipping for them. Well
I’m done complaining, time to hit the positives.
The sweet setup of the game automatically attracts you to it. You can customize
the backgrounds, and make the sounds all spiffy. I personally have the
underwater theme with the creepy background noise, it is awesome by the way. I
would love to have the LittleBigPlanet one, but it costs more than a song. All
of the songs have the original videos playing in the background, which really
keeps it fun. Instead of staring at stupid cartoon characters bouncing around,
you can see Wilson Philips singing Hold on and realizing that she picked one
ugly chick to be in her group, so that she would look better along with her
other hot friend.
Though you do feel kind of fruity singing songs like that and To the moon and
back by Savage Garden, but if you’re having a party with a bunch of buddies over
and a couple of beers, you feel much better. The setup of the singstore also
makes it easy to go and find songs from certain genres if you’re just looking
for a song that is like the ones you like, but all new to learn. I can't tell
you how much money I've pumped into their store. I felt like a kid in a candy
shop when for two weeks in a row they put up Rick Astley songs. Really found it
pretty odd that they actually tossed up some dance songs like Vampires Are Alive
by DJ Bobo and also another one of his big hits, It's My Life. Well this is all
there really is to explain about a game that is based on a pretty simple
principle.
So it is time to move you all on to the "Final Verdict"!
Final Verdict
The overall decision on this game is pretty easy to figure out. Go buy it if you
havn’t gotten yourself any karaoke games for your Ps3. Even if you got the first
one on the system, it’s still worth picking up, because there is a pretty good
selection of songs packed in on this disc. Bet you didn’t see that coming. You
totally thought I was going to say pass. This game rocks, so go snatch on from
your local game store.
