Two years ago a game called Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad came out in
Japan. US fans have been waiting to get their hands on this game because quite
frankly the name is worth a shot. Now that the game is finally State size was it
worth the two years we had to wait?
Bikini Samurai is the prequel to the Wii game Bikini Zombie Slayers, a game that
came out the same day as this one. Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad revolves
around two sisters who are cursed with baneful blood. Zombies and demons are
looking for the two sisters and all they want is their brains!
The story is sort of basic and cliché. As you progress through the game you will
run into plot holes that don’t help the games little story that it had going.
All you need to know about this game is it’s a mindless hack-n-slash game with
half naked women. Do you really need any more from a game like this?

In order to play this game you have to have fast fingers and a carbonated drink.
The games tutorial doesn’t help a whole lot but then again what is there to know
about a hack-n-slash game?
Well you need to know that the blood on your sword causes the enemy to block
your attacks more, which causes you to finally loose health off your meter. It
always would have been nice if we knew that you turned into a demon when another
meter fills up. There is just so much in this game that we don’t know about,
hell the manual does nothing for the game either.
All enemies can be killed with a few simple slashes. Later on the in game you’ll
have to do other attacks to kill enemies. At no point does the game tell you
that certain enemies can only die by certain attacks. Couldn’t the developers
change things around with the US release because this game just feels unpolished
and unfinished?
There is a tips section in the game that does nothing to help out. If you die
then you get a tip on how not to die like that again. Gee thanks, I’ll make sure
not to die like that again. What was I thinking?
The level design in this game is terrible. All of the stages are repeated to a
point where you know where certain items drop and which enemies hide where. Many
times you will get lost at the stages at first but thanks to receptiveness this
should only occur in early levels.
Motorcycle levels are a nice way to change things up a little. Actually playing
these levels is another thing. The stages are frustrating and annoying. You will
be begging for the same level you just played. Sadly you have a good chance
playing that level again right after the motorcycle levels.

One of the saving graces in this game has to be the leveling system. As you play
through the games cool loading screens and the actually stages you will earn
experience. At the end of each stage you can use these points to build your
characters. You can also unlock new clothing for the girls by performing quests,
which are simple tasks that make about as much sense as the game itself.
Graphically this game looks like a Playstation 2 game. Cutscenes change in and
out of quality and the in-game footage is puzzling. How could a game like this
even make it on an Xbox 360? At least the limbs look pretty cool when enemies
die, then again that starts to look bad after awhile.
There is no online play but a second player can join in. This sounds great and
all but the two player mode is split screen. It is 2009 and games are still done
in split screen? When you are playing Survival Mode this is a problem because
the levels here and so small you will get confused if you keep looking at your
friends screen.
Final Verdict
With all of the bad things I pointed out about this game I still have to give it
credit. For only $40 you can get a mindless hack-n-slash game that usually costs
$60. Bikini Samurai Squad might not be the best the genre has to offer but it
does have enough features in it that makes it worth a rental or random purchase.
