Back in the early days of the Nintendo Wii a little game called Elebits came out. The game got some good praise but the game left hardcore gamers with a game that didn’t live up to the hype. Fast forward to 2009 and Konami is giving us another Elebits, this time on the DS.

Elebits seems to be a new franchise from Konami. Another title is set to be released on the Wii next year so until then we have The Adventures of Kai and Zero. Instead of making a true sequel, having gamers touch the bottom screen to find Elebits, Konami went ahead and created an action game.

The Adventures of Kai and Zero plays a lot like a Zelda game and that is a damn good thing. This game picks up where the last one left off. Since Konami knows the first game didn’t end up in too many Wii’s The Adventures of Kai and Zero does a nice job at recapping everything. Since the story in the first game really wasn’t all that great it doesn’t take too long to get you up to.

Just like the first game the story in this game really isn’t all that great. Kai and his best friend Zero find themselves in a bus after a long night of being neglected by the adults (Kai is a baby). Zero accidentally charges up the bus and the two end up in an alternate universe. To get back Kai has to find certain items to charge up the bus again.

Every world Kai and Zero explore have there own tasks you need to complete. The main part of the game is to find those items to charge up the bus. You can breeze through this game without any problem, a good few hours and the bus will be moving again. The Adventures of Kai and Zero really don’t offer a whole lot after the main storyline.

Gameplay has you using both the controls and the stylus. As you progress through the game you’ll earn new elebits to do certain tasks, either building ice blocks or setting things on fire. The stylus controls are easy to use and they really don’t ruin any aspect of the game. With simple taps and easy movements you can enjoy Kai and Zero’s adventures.

For a children’s game some of the puzzles are a tad on the difficult side. Since this adventure is not too long these puzzles stick out like a sore thumb. You might find yourself backtracking a lot and for what? Usually the answer is right under your noise so the best thing to do is sit and think, the game isn’t going any where.

Final Verdict
Konami has faith in the elebits and that is a good thing. The Adventures of Kai and Zero is a solid action game for the Nintendo DS. The only real problem I had with this game is the length. I enjoyed myself for the couple of hours I played the game but I was left with no real motivation to play the game again.
