What would you rather buy? A video game based on an all time classic board game or the actual board game itself? Electronic Arts thinks you want to buy the video game which is why they released Monopoly. Is the extra money really worth it or should everybody just blow the dust off one of their copies of the board game?

The title pretty much sums it up. This is Monopoly. All of the basic components of Monopoly are on this disc. That’s right, $40 for a game you can get for less than $10 at some stores. Electronic Arts did add a few new aspects to the game, but this is just Monopoly with lots of different load times and Mister Money Bags dancing around like an idiot.

Standard mode plays just like a normal game of Monopoly. Instead of doing all of the hard work, rolling the dice, telling people to keep it down, and money exchange are absent from the game. Pretty much all you do in this game is hit the same button forever. No matter which game board you play it is still the same.

Electronics Arts knows that gamers like more for their buck. That is why they added a bunch of different mini games within Monopoly. They are mini games based around different aspects from the board game. None of these mini games seem to work properly and they end way too fast, sometimes faster than it takes to actually load the damn game.

One of the only things that could save this game is online play. Sure you can play with some friends at home, but online play would make this game worth while. Electronic Arts decided to release the game without any online features. Seriously I have no real comment about this, which is just sad.

Final Verdict
If you want to spend extra money on a game you can get for practically nothing then Monopoly is perfect for you. Mister Money Bags might dance around when the game is playing, but is he going to pay the bill in the end? I didn’t think so, pass on Monopoly.
