ATV games are about as fun as most racing games. For the complete run the games usually feel like the greatest video game on the market. When the gun wears down you are left with a game that will collect dust. Is Pure another one of those ATV games that is going to collect dust in your collection?

Black Rock Studio and Disney Interactive have created the first sleeper hit of the year. Pure is an action packed ATV game that does loose fuel after a few hours of gameplay. There is plenty to do and see in Pure. Your ordinary ATV game will have a set amount of tracks and a set amount of obstacles, usually passing on effort. What Pure does is take all of these aspects we have seen in so many different ATV’s and expands on it, giving gamers enough to play for days, weeks, even months.

The game focuses on the fun parts of gaming, over the top stunts being performed on beautiful landscapes. There is enough eye candy in Pure to satisfy gamers and those who only play games with amazing graphics. Even though Disney has its name on this game that doesn’t mean it is for children.

Pure has enough mechanics for the hardcore ATV fan. If you are not familiar with ATV’s then you have nothing to worry about. You can simply let the game build your ATV or you can go through the many options and see from the stats what you want to build. Fans of ATV’s will want to spend hours building a few good vehicles for the different terrains. Certain tournaments will force you to use a set category, but that isn’t a problem because you have plenty of room to build a garage full of ATV’s.

There are three kinds of way to play Pure. Race mode is your general way to play the game. Use whatever it takes to complete three laps. A total of sixteen racers are competing for first place you so better make sure you don’t mess up.

Sprint puts you against sixteen racers again. You need to do what it takes to get in first with only five laps. There is no way to do any tricks and you can not boost for extra speed. You have to use all your skills here to achieve victory; this mode is defiantly the hardest.

Last but not least is my favorite, freestyle. When the race starts you have so much gasoline to get as many points as you can. Doing tricks is so much fun in Pure, anybody can pick this game up and do crazy tricks. The controls in Pure are a dream come true. Hold in up or down and hit a button, repeat and gain mad points. Pure has the best controls, hands down.

World Tour mode features all of these events in ten stages. In order to advance you will have to gain so many points. This feels a lot like Burnout Revenge so fans of that game will feel right at home. It might only take five to seven hours to beat all of the stages, but the main focus is to go back and get first place in everything. That way you will #1 in World Tour mode.

During World Tour mode you will unlock new tracks for all three modes. Not only that you can gain new parts for your ATV, giving you the chance to create the ultimate machine. If that isn’t enough then you can unlock new characters and character outfits. Pure has so much to offer, putting the game down is the worst part of the whole Pure experience.

The other options in Pure are a little thin. You can play with friend’s offline and try to beat the clock. This might sound like a huge disappointment but Pure makes up for it with the online play. You can play with sixteen people in total. If you can’t fill a game up then the computer will help out. Online matches run smooth; there was never any slowing down when I played the game online.

New gamers will find the computer opponents a bit on the hard side at times. If you get too close it seems like the computer will be able to push you off the stage without any problems. Not only that the AI gets to take tiny short cuts (cutting corners mainly), but when you try these same tactics the game will cause you to crash, making you loose precious seconds off your time.

Final Verdict
Pure delivers a arcade like ATV game that has it all. After playing the game for three days straight I found the time to put it down and write this review. Racing games in general come out almost every month; none of them really come close to what Pure offers. New and old fans of ATV games should pick this game up.
