The Nintendo DS has loads of games right now, ranging from classic platformers to old school role playing games. One of the games that the DS has been lacking is something that came out on the Xbox 360 earlier this year and that is N+. Can this puzzle platformer breath new life on Nintendo’s portable?

N+ is defiantly what old school gamers have been waiting for. There is nothing too fancy about this game, which might be the main reason why N+ is so ridiculous fun. All you do is move and jump through numerous stages. All of the levels are some what short, but there are endless amount of ways to beat them. You can either use speed or jump from left to right. No matter how you play N+ there is a good chance that you will never be able to put the game down.

Each stage has you hitting a green switch to open up the exit door. During your time in each of these stages you can collect gold that helps build up your score and add seconds to the clock. Your little guy is a ninja so figure on sliding, jumping, and climbing on walls. The only ninja activities you can’t do in this game is taking out a sword and kill endless amounts of bad guys.

The game is set up real nicely on the Nintendo DS. On the top screen you can see the current map and on the bottom you get to play the actual game. This might not sound like much, but if anyone has played the Xbox 360 version then you know how nice this is. You can map out how you are going to play each level, just make sure you don’t waste too much time.

Surprisingly the portable version has more features. You are able to share the levels you create in the games editor, something you couldn’t do before in the Xbox version. There are also some multiplayer modes like domination and tag modes. In tag mode players constantly play, making sure they are not “it”. Whoever is “it” looses time. In domination you are just playing a bare version of capture the flag, a common mode of play in any FPS.

Since the cartridge can’t hold as much there are some downfalls to this version of N+. The sound for starters does not seem quite as good. The same thing can be said about the games sound effects, at times it feels like there is a delay whenever a sound effect should be played. It is understandable that a cartridge game would have lesser sound qualities, but the sound overall wasn’t groundbreaking when it first came out.

Final Verdict
Even though the sound isn’t quite up to par I have to say that this is a perfect purchase for anyone that owns a Nintendo DS. For only $20 you will get about as much gameplay as a normal over priced DS game. Online play is fun and playing with your friends wirelesses is more enjoyable that certain modern games. If you own a Nintendo DS then buy this game right now.
