Indiana Jones is the man of the hour when it comes to great come backs. The latest Indiana Jones movie makes it clear that people still loved this character. LucasArts and Traveller’s Tales took this upon their hands and created another Lego game, but is it a problem that the latest Indiana Jones movie isn’t included?

The Indiana Jones franchise is hot right now and the Lego Indiana Jones game is only the start of something good. There is a high level of adventuring and puzzle solving in this game, mix that with solid fighting and enough unlockables for hours, the Original Adventures is the prime focus when it comes to Indiana Jones games.

Lego Indiana Jones runs through the original three films. Parts of the films that might have been too violent or showed unfitting images (no Nazis), the developers changed things around to make it a friendlier adventure. Just because this game might be for children it still is enjoyable for all ages and for the most part it is directed towards hardcore gamers.

Some of the most famous scenes from the three Indiana Jones movies are recreated and they are a lot of fun to play. Even in-between stages you get to view cut scenes that show off the Lego franchise. With each game it seems like these games get better and better. Major plot thickeners like Indy being scared of snakes and the monkey brains are in this game. Of course the humor might be a tad too much at times, but you have to realize that this is a Lego game based on Indiana Jones.

There are a set amount of characters that will help you in your adventure. Indiana Jones has the whip, the female characters can jump high, little characters can crawl, and so fourth. A few of the characters have special abilities that they can only use. It is impossible to unlock everything in this game in one sitting so expect to play through this game on free play mode for quite some time. Before you adventure out make sure you unlock all of the characters, one of those characters is Han Solo.

After awhile the puzzles start to get more annoying than enjoyable. Replaying the same stage five times, just to unlock all the treasure chests, can get boring. This part of the game is where hardcore gamers will enjoy it more than children, which this game is attended for. You can beat the main adventure (all three games) in a couple of fours, maybe around three to five hours. If you want to get the most out of this game then you better start replaying the stages and sitting through about a half a minute worth of loading screens (it starts to add up after awhile).

The gameplay is simple. You can use hand-to-hand combat, guns, whips, swords, and about a few other Lego related items. Using any of these weapons is fairly easy, but you have to remember that certain items take longer to swing. A shovel isn’t always the best idea when you are fighting off a horde of bad games, you just might die and loose some of your coins. Some times it does seem/feel like the best strategy is to die and respawn with temporary invisibility. You can do this as much as you want since Lego Indiana Jones has infinite lives.

Vehicles play a more important role this time. Control wise everything is a lot smoother, however at the same time the vehicles don’t control as nice as you’d hope. Most of the time you will need the vehicles to solve puzzles or break through a door to advance. There really isn’t a set time where you can just drive around for the hell or it, Lego Indiana Jones is a pretty linier game.

There is still the two player option in this game. Having two players is mandatory if you want to achieve some of the achievements in this game. Overall this game can be a one player experience from start to finish. There are no online features in this game, when you think about it though that isn’t the biggest problem. Hopefully they will add in some online features in the next game, but it won’t be the end of the world.

Final Verdict
Traveller’s Tale has once again made another great Lego experience. These sort of games might seem like they are for children, but in reality these are the sort of games that hardcore gamers will enjoy. You can pretty much complete this game in no more than five hours so the $49.99 asking cost might seem too steep to some.
