The first Izuna game showed us a new kind of ninja game. With lots of humor and solid gameplay this game went on to be a treasure amongst Nintendo DS fans. When Atlus was ready to unleash a second game in the Izuna series the fans got excited because our unemployed ninja is coming back on the double screen portable console.

Izuna 2 has the same gameplay as every other dungeon crawler game. If you can’t beat the gameplay then why change it, right? That is usually a true statement when it comes to things like that. In case to Izuna 2 it seems like the game plays a lot like the first one, nothing new was really added to enhance the game.

One thing that has changed is the humor. Izuna is funnier than ever, same goes for all the other cast of characters. The comedic parts in this game really make this game golden. Certain dialogue in this game seems a bit strange, almost like it is out of place in a game like this.

The core game has you exploring dungeons in basic mazes. Anytime you step on the ground it will act as a single turn. Enemies move at the same time as well so if you are trying to heal when an enemy is attacking you then you will face some damage loss.

You are able to earn experience for killing so many foes and after so long you’ll earn levels. Unlike other dungeon crawlers if you die then you will keep your current level. This is a huge deal because the game will start to get harder after awhile. If you die then you’ll go back to town with no items and gold. This isn’t the biggest problem since you can always earn new gold and items again.

One of the new features in this game is the tag team mode, which allows players to bring more than one character into dungeons. You can switch between characters, allowing you to earn levels for all of your characters. There is the addition of an SP gauge, but this is actually a punch in the face. When your SP gauge runs low your character may run into missing attacks and dealing lower amounts of damage. Thankfully you won’t start loosing health points when this gauge is at zero.

The original game didn’t feature any online mode. Izuna 2 is the same way, no online mode is available. Since most games have online features in them now this was sort f a let down. Honestly though after playing this game for a few hours I didn’t care too much. This is a casual game that you can pick up and play whenever. If you had to wait for a friend to play then you may end up going crazy. Sega added online features to their dungeon crawler on the Nintendo DS and it ended up being the worst part of the game, you have to wait for a friend to come online to resurrect you.

Final Verdict
The unemployed ninja may have a hard time finding work, but at least she can still dish out hours of gameplay on the Nintendo DS. Izuna 2 might feel like the first game at first; you just need to stick with it. I think this is a perfect game for anybody that just wants to pick up a game for a quick hour of gameplay. Check this one out.
