Sierra Mist Undercover

Sierra Mist Undercover

Reviewer: Eric

In honor of Get Smart coming out this summer the Sierra Mist brand of beverages are going undercover. Sierra Must and Sierra Mist Free are receiving a kick of mandarin orange in their lemon-lime flavor. Is going undercover the thing Sierra Mist needed to pull out a great limited edition soda?

Sierra Mist UndercoverThe soda has a clear look to it, which isn’t new. When you first open up this soda you may notice a orange smell, something like an orange soda. As much as this drink smells like orange it doesn’t always taste like orange, which is a huge let down since Undercover is supposed to taste like orange, along with the original Sierra Must formula.

To make sure people know this flavor is all about the Get Smart movie, Pepsi went ahead and slapped Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway’s faces all over the logo. Both flavors (regular and the diet) use the same colors, white, green, blue and orange. The diet uses more white while the regular flavor has more orange. If you don’t pay attention then you may mix up the two because your eyes will be stuck on the two actors faces.

Sierra Mist Undercover tastes a lot like Sprite Remix, a soda Coke released a few years ago. Instead of wowing us with a new flavor, Pepsi thought it would be a good idea to use a similar formula Coke used. Though both these drinks have a similar taste I noticed more of an orange flavor with Undercover, which makes sense since that is what the beverage is going for.

Surprisingly the diet flavor tastes a lot like the regular flavor. The main difference between the two are the nutrition facts and the sweet taste in the diet soda. If you were to dump a few packets of Splenda in the normal Undercover soda then you would get the same taste as the diet version.

Both bottles say one bottle, the 20 ounce ones, should serve 2.5 people. This is common in 20 ounce drinks so don’t worry. The diet version has the same facts as every other diet soda, while the normal Undercover has 240 calories and 65 grams of sugar. Undercover’s sugar might be higher than normal sodas, which can be a problem if you are trying to keep your sugar intake down.

Pepsi went all out and released Sierra Mist Undercover in all formats. The 20 ounce bottles might be easier to find, since gas stations and convenient stores carry bottles more. I was able to find 2 liters and cases at two different Wal Marts. As of now I have yet to find this flavor at any other stores so your best bet might be going to a Wal Mart if you want to try either of these new flavors.

Final Verdict
I want to give Pepsi credit for releasing an original flavor, but I have tried this before. It seems Pepsi is running out of ideas so they are either bringing back old flavors or, as Undercover proves, copying off their competition. Undercover is worth a try, but I won’t miss it too much when it’s gone.
