Jigsaw Storyline:
Punisher: War Journal #18 (Part 1 of 6)
How many people are still reading Punisher: War Journal? The biggest
storyline in the series history is going down now and it got off to a rough
start. Issue #19 is just like the last issue, but instead of trying to get
better, Matt Fraction and his team are killing off Frank Castle without the help
of Jigsaw.
Take the last issue of the War Journal and throw it out because it didn’t mean
anything. Whom we thought was Frank Castle in the last issue wasn’t. Jigsaw and
his family are out to get the Punisher and that means ruining his character. Now
the police department is looking for a new terrorist and his name is Frank
Castle.
I don’t know how much longer I can put up with the War Journal series. Rick
Remender and Matt Fraction are ruining the Punisher’s name. Bringing back Jigsaw
was a good idea, this is what the series needed to re-boost its credibility.
Instead of making this the best thing the series has ever seen, Remender and
Fraction are turning this into one confusing storyline that makes about as much
sense as One More Day.
This story has been brewing up in the War Journal series for some time now. You
have to give them credit for putting tidbits here and there in past issues, but
what we see in this issue is just terrible. Jigsaw could nearly take down the
Punisher all by himself. Why does he need help from two individuals that mean
nothing? Punisher vs. Punisher? I hope this doesn’t happen, but I’m sure this
will happen.
If the story wasn’t enough, there is still some bad news with this series. The
art from Howard Chaykin is worse than the last issue. I have no idea who is who
in this issue. Which one is the real Punisher? Is Frank Castle buying all the
terrorist magazines or is that somebody else? I have no idea at all!
Frank Castle doesn’t even look like Frank Castle. Jigsaw looks like an idiot.
Hell, even the woman with the bandaged face looks stupid. Chaykin can’t draw
anything decent in this issue. All he cares about is drawing the skull on the
Punisher’s shirt.
Final Verdict
A six part story that deals with Jigsaw…why six? I don’t know if this is worth
it. The story is bad and the art is even worse. I was hoping for this issue to
be better than the last, but it looks like this one is a whole lot worse.
