There is a lot in this trade paperback to make Spider-Man fans happy. If you didn’t get a chance to read the Election Day HC then now you are in luck. Not only will this TPB be easier to come by but you save five whole dollars too. Oh wait a second it does have President Barack Obama in it.

Marc Guggenheim and John Romita Jr. do the main work around the Election Day storyline. This five part series is one of the better Amazing Spider-Man stories I have read in a long time.

It’s Election Day in New York City and the race for the next mayor is starting to get serious. Bill Hollister seems to be getting the upper hand thanks to Menace (Menace keeps trashing Hollister’s campaign rallies). Spider-Man is on the scene on the latest rally disaster but the NYPD arrest Spider-Man over a string of killings caused by the Spider-Tracer Killer, who they believe to be Spider-Man.

The other stories in this trade include Chameleon trying to mess things up during President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Day. There is also a real short digital comic that is now in paper format as well featuring Spider-Man, Captain American, and Abraham Lincoln.

Election Day is an event that will answer questions fans have had since Brand New Day started. The new villain Menace’s identity is finally revealed. I like the format Guggenheim uses by showing the hours passing in the story. Election Day starts to heat up towards the last hours but that doesn’t mean everything in-between is pointless. Guggenheim makes sure to grab the attention from readers right away.

I did however disliked how Guggenheim was giving us this message where if we don’t vote then you are dumb. Nobody needs to tell me what to do when it comes to voting. There is even a part in this issue where two villains have a discussion about voting. There was no need for this in here.

John Romita Jr. has done some of the best work when it comes to penciling Spider-Man in the Brand New Day era. I couldn’t find any faults in any of the frames when Romita Jr. was taking lead. I wish I could say that with some of the other artists work but hey at least for the most part Romita Jr. is doing his best to make fans happy.

Alright so some of you may want to buy this TPB because of Obama’s appearance. Whatever you do please don’t make sure purchase based on that factor. The whole Obama aspect is a waste of time and it kills the whole mood. I was glad it was at the end but trust me that is more than enough.

The two Amazing Spider-Man: Extra! stories are blah. Again you can do without them but the one does give us details around the Spider-Man trial.

Final Verdict
Election Day is out in trade and I think it would be a good time to pick it up, if you are a Spider-Man fan or someone who is looking to get back into the series. Brand New Day has been rough for some fans but I think the team of Guggenheim and Romita Jr. do a swell job on making things right.
